Tara Betts Is Featured Author For 2018 Lynne Burris-butler Visiting Poet Series

FLORENCE, Ala.-The 2018 Lynne Burris-Butler Visiting Poet Series will feature Tara Betts reading at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Betts is the author ofBreak the Habit(2016),kwansabas(2015) andArc and Hue(2009). Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Essence, Callaloo, and Columbia Poetry Review, as well as many anthologies. She has appeared on HBO's Def Poetry Jam and twice competed in the National Poetry Slam.
Betts earned her MFA at New England College and her Ph.D. in English/Creative Writing at Binghamton University. She is a Cave Canem Alum.
UNA students will also have the opportunity to work with Betts during a poetry workshop Oct. 10.
Tara Betts' reading is made possible by the generosity of the family of Lynne Burris-Bulter, a poet who retired from the UNA English Department after a long career of teaching creative writing.
